The MPC meeting minutes have shown the same result as last time – 6:3. Six members, including BOE governor Mervyn King voted for no change in Britain’s low interest rate – 0.50%. 3 members voted for raising it: the veteran hawk Andrew Sentance voted again for a hike of 0.50%, while Martin Weale and internal member Spencer Dale voted for raising the Official Bank Rate by 0.25%.

In the US, FOMC Member Fisher Speaks, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Richard Fisher is due to deliver a speech titled “Monetary and Fiscal Policy Challenges in the United States” at the Goethe University, in Frankfurt. Hints regarding future monetary policy may be dropped.

In the US, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke; due to testify on the oversight of Dodd-Frank implementation before the Senate Banking Committee, in Washington DC. As head of the central bank, has more influence over the nation’s currency value than any other person.

It didn’t happen in the past week. Yet again, the interest rate was left unchanged, in a rate decision that was closely watched for a changed. Central bankers will continue rocking the pound in the upcoming week, as many speeches are scheduled.

The other 7 members, including governor Mervyn King, still oppose such a move. One of the other 7 members, Adam Posen, even wants more quantitative easing (pound printing) to boost the economy.

In the US, Treasury Currency Report, It provides a detailed review of global exchange rate policies, economic conditions, and central bank and government actions around the world. Most importantly, the report outlines counties that the Treasury deems currency manipulators.

In the US, Durable Goods Orders, new purchase orders placed with manufacturers for durable goods is about to reduce by 0.5%, while the Core Durable Goods Orders (excluding transportation items) is about to rise by 1.2%. Rising purchase orders signal that manufacturers will increase activity as they work to fill the orders
