Britain’s trade deficit leaped to almost 10 billion and weighed on the pound. On the other hand, manufacturing was OK, at least during September. Conditions are expected to worsen later on.

In the US, Federal Budget Balance, monthly measurement to value the federal government’s salary and expenses, further reduce from -43.1B on July month to -140.3B this month.

The pound got mixed indicators in the past week. The manufacturing sector is suffering badly, while construction is stable and the services sector is enjoying faster growth. This is part of the story of the pound’s choppiness, that will likely continue now.

Low inflation rates was the reason for the Fed’s second round of bond buying in November. Lockhart said the $600 billion program is already working.

In the US, Unemployment Claims, the nation’s earliest weekly economic data on individuals who filed for unemployment insurance for the first time during the past week, is about to reduce by 6K. Lagging indicator since consumer spending is highly correlated with labor-market conditions.
