Beijing wants a deal “fully locked in” before Xi-Trump summit – CNBC

Citing three sources familiar with discussions, CNBC reported that Chinese negotiators want to announce a trade deal with the U.S. before President Xi meets with President Trump in the highly-anticipated summit in the U.S.

“Since the countries brokered a temporary truce, U.S. negotiators have sought commitments and concessions up front, while Chinese negotiators looked to shelve complicated issues for Xi and Trump to settle in person,” writes CNBC’s Kayla Tasuche. “Beijing now wants a deal fully locked in before its leader sits down with Trump, although Trump would still prefer to close the deal himself.”
