Germany’s Steinmeier: Unlikely that negotiations on backstop will get going again

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is seen on the wires now, via Reuters, noting that it is unlikely that the negotiations on backstop will get going again.

Steinmeier added that all backstop scenarios have already been discussed.

Earlier today, officials from his government also voiced the same view on the Irish backstop.

  • Germany’s Roettgen: There’s no room for amending the withdrawal agreement
  • Germany’s Roth: Peace in Northern Ireland and integrity of EU single market are non-negotiable for EU
  • Germany’s Merkel: We will think about practical solutions to backstop
