Microsoft Outlook accounts hacked for cryptocurrency theft

  • Hackers have been gaining access to Microsoft Outlook email accounts to reset user passwords, in order to steal cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin (BTC).
  • One victim had a Bitcoin stolen after the cybercriminal accessed his emails to reset a password for his Kracken account, to then withdraw the Bitcoin.

Crypto-jackers conducted an attack on users’ Microsoft Outlook email accounts in the purpose for stealing cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin (BTC).

A victim of hacking recently expressed his concerns, after a cyber-criminal gained access to Jevon Ritmeester’s account with Microsoft support login credentials. The hacker then used the information to hunt through email information to reset passwords and withdraw Bitcoin from his accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges

Ritmeester reported that he lost one Bitcoin (BTC)  equivalent to $5,500 the current price at the time of writing. He said:

The hackers also had access to my inbox, allowing them to password-reset my Kraken account and withdrawal my bitcoin.
