Starbucks to use Microsoft Blockchain service to track its coffee Beans

  • Starbucks is using Microsoft’s Azure Blockchain Service.
  • Starbucks will use all the useful information from “field to cup.”

Starbucks is reportedly set to use Microsoft Blockchain services to track its coffee beans to impart more information to its consumers. Microsoft announced that Starbucks is using its Azure Blockchain Service to track coffee shipments from around the world, bringing “digital, real-time traceability.”

The partnership will enable Microsoft’s blockchain service to record all changes along the journey of the coffee on a shared ledger. Hence, it can provide a “more complete view” of the supply chain. Starbucks will use all the useful information about the processing of the coffee, from the field to the cup.

Michelle Burns, SVP of Global Coffee & Tea at Starbucks, said:

“I firmly believe that by empowering farmers with knowledge and data through technology, we can support them in ultimately improving their livelihoods. This kind of transparency offers customers the chance to see that the coffee they enjoy from us is the result of many people caring deeply.”
