Wall Street opens modestly lower as investors remain focused on trade war headlines

Major equity indexes in the U.S. started the day in the negative territory on Wednesday as investors continue to react to latest headlines surrounding the U.S.-China trade dispute. As of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.03% on the day while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were down 0.08% and 0.14%, respectively.

Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted out China had informed him that the   Vice-Premier was coming to the U.S. “to make a deal.” On the other hand, the Federal Register published the official notice of the U.S. raising the tariff rate on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports to 25% at 00:01 on Friday from 10%.

Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Real Estate is up 0.5% on the day to lead the gains while the Utilities is erasing 0.8%.
