Euro area consumer confidence improves slightly to -2.7 vs -3.2 expected

“In October 2018, the DG ECFIN flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator remained broadly stable in the euro area (0.2 points up) and the EU (0.1 points up),” the European Commission reported on Tuesday.  

  • At -2.7 points (euro area and EU), both indicators are well above their respective long-term averages of -12.1 (euro area) and -11.1 (EU).
  • In September, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) decreased in both the euro area (by 0.7 points to 110.9) and the EU (by 0.9 to 111.3).
