The UK Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay is on the wires now, via Reuters, noting that the UK government will try to get the legal and political assurances on the backstop.

The direction of travel on the backstop is moving in the right direction.

No other deal will carry the confidence of parliament.

Both UK and the EU wants a deal.

Both sides see the backstop as temporary.
