NZ: 2019 to be a bit more challenging – ANZ

New Zealand’s economy was resilient in 2018, but analysts at ANZ suggest that 2019 looks like it could be a bit more challenging.

Key Quotes

“We see continued growth of 2 ½-3%, with the economy supported by a number of factors, but we suspect that the data may start to look a little softer in the year ahead.”

“Our current view is that the OCR will be on hold for the foreseeable future, rather than necessarily increasing in the next few years as the RBNZ expects, with the medium-term outlook for inflation not assured. As always, global developments always have the potential to change the landscape quickly. And global risks are looming larger than they have done for quite some time.”
