WTO to launch an investigation on US tariffs on China

Reuters reports the latest comments from James Bacchus, a Former Democratic Congressman and Onetime Head of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) appellate body, citing that the WTO is expected to launch an investigation on Trump’s tariffs on $250B worth of Chinese goods  just a few days ahead of the key US-China meetings.

Its worth noting that China has made the request to investigate.

Key Quotes:

“This WTO case is especially significant because it deals with the central international legal issue in the U.S. conduct of its trade war with China — whether the U.S. can impose trade restrictions on China in response to alleged Chinese WTO violations without first seeking dispute settlement in the WTO.”
