Bloomberg has picked up the news that “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told House Democrats in a closed-door meeting she will support a formal impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, according to two lawmakers, kicking off a dramatic escalation of their months-long confrontation with the president.”
We are waiting to hear an official announcement from Pelosi who is set to make one at 5 p.m., following the meeting with House Democrats.
“There remains confusion among Democrats about what precisely she’ll do, with several lawmakers pointing out that Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler has already described his panel’s investigation as an impeachment investigation.
Speaking at The Atlantic Festival in Washington, Pelosi said it’s not necessary for there to be an explicit “quid pro quo” for Trump’s conversation Ukraine’s president to be an impeachable offense.”
