China advises caution when travelling to Australia amid racism

In a statement published via its official Wechat account, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised citizens to reconsider plans to travel to Australia amid anti-Chinese sentiment and racism.

Earlier in the day, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Australia’s souring diplomatic relationship with China was not expected to impede the progress of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Market reaction

This headline doesn’t seem to be having a significant impact on China-proxy AUD and NZD’s performance. As of writing, the AUD/USD pair was up 0.36% on the day at 0.6975 and the NZD/USD pair was down 0.12% at 0.6571.
