COVID-19 cases, severe illness and deaths continued falling among older people who were prioritized in Israel’s vaccination campaign.
Updated data from the country of nine million which jabbed over 42% of its population have shown that among those aged 60 or older, there were 64% fewer cases, 48% fewer critically ill, and 50% fewer deaths. Similar downtrends were seen among those aged 55 to 59 who were next in line.
On the other hand, all people aged 54 or lower showed only 35% fewer infections and 20% more critically ill. The figures follow a large 1.2 million strong study showing that vaccines were 94% efficacious. Israel is using the Pfizer/BioNTech immunization solution.
