Euronext suspends CoinShares’ Zcash ETP on Paris debut day

Euronext Paris suspended CoinShares’ Zcash ETP (ZCSH) from trading on 28 October, the same day the product was scheduled to debut, according to a notice from the exchange. The notice gave no reason, and CoinShares had announced the launch only that morning as the newest addition to its CoinShares Physical range.

Flavio Bornancin-Tomasella, Euronext’s press and communications manager, said the suspension would remain until “standard settlement operations can be fully supported by the Central Securities Depository (CSD)”. He described the measure as strictly limited to “operational settlement requirements”.

The suspension looks like a plumbing problem rather than a verdict on the asset. A CSD is the institution that finalises securities trades, and an ETP trades as a security on a regulated exchange, so the product cannot change hands until that layer supports it. Euronext’s own framing stops at operations: the halt is not a rejection, a delisting or anything about Zcash itself. For readers who trade the wrapper rather than the token, the gating point in crypto listings increasingly sits in post-trade infrastructure, not in the listing decision. That is the same settlement friction regulators have been carving out elsewhere, as in Brazil’s rule barring stablecoins from the eFX settlement leg.

The ETP itself is straightforward: a 1.5% annual management fee, 100% physically backed by ZEC and reachable through a standard brokerage account without private keys or direct custody. It would have been reportedly the fourth Zcash-based ETP listed in Europe, after products from 21Shares, Virtune and Valor earlier this year. No end date for the suspension has been given.

ZEC was trading at roughly $1,300 on the day of the suspension, up 6.5% in 24 hours. CoinShares had reportedly not responded to requests for comment by publication. Its own launch announcement for ZCSH remains live, still dated 28 October.
