According to a report by Axios, quoting people involved in the talks, the US President Trump has repeatedly told top White House officials he wants to withdraw the United States from the World Trade Organization.
According to sources with direct knowledge, Trump remains unmoved by arguments that the US has done well at the WTO.
Should Trump announce a withdrawal at some point in the future, it would cast doubts over trillions of dollars of global trade.
The report hurt the prevalent risk-on mood but the effect turned out to be short-lived, with the USD/JPY pair quickly reversing a dip below mid-110.00s.
