Canada: Manufacturing sales edged down 0.1% in October to $58.2 billion

“Manufacturing sales edged down 0.1% in October to $58.2 billion, following four increases in the previous five months,” Statistics Canada reported today.

  • Overall, sales were down in 7 of 21 industries, representing 40.5% of the manufacturing sector.
  • Sales of durable goods decreased 0.9% to $30.0 billion, while sales of non-durable goods rose 0.7% to $28.3 billion.
  • Constant dollar sales increased 0.2%, indicating a higher volume of goods sold.
  • The capacity utilization rate (not seasonally adjusted) for the manufacturing sector declined 1.2 percentage points, from 81.9% in September to 80.7% in October.
