Wall Street starts the day mixed on Friday

After recording strong gains and heavy losses in a highly volatile  week, major equity indexes in the U.S. started the day relatively calm on Friday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 both gaining 0.2% while the Nasdaq Composite is erasing 0.1% in minutes following the opening bell.

Within the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, technology and industrials are staying in the negative territory while consumer staples lead the gains with a 0.9% advance.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to close the Mexico border in a Twitter thread.

“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” Trump said. “The United States loses so much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a profit-making operation.”
