Statement From USTR on U.S./Japan trade agreement

United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer met with Japan’s Economic Revitalization Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on April 15-16 in Washington to continue negotiations on the United States-Japan Trade Agreement where he raised concerns on very large trade deficit.  

  • “The two officials reaffirmed their shared goal of achieving substantive results on trade in furtherance of the joint statement issued by President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on September 26, 2018.”
