US: Housing starts rose 5.7% in April vs 8% expected

The U.S. Census Bureau today reported that housing starts in April increased by 5.7% on a monthly basis and fell short of the market expectation of 8%. Other data revealed that building permits rose by 0.6% in April following March’s 0.2% contraction.  

The US Dollar Index largely ignored the data and was last up 0.12% on the day at 97.67.
