In an interview on Sunday, the Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that Mexico is a friend of the American people and that he wants to continue being friends with his US counterpart Donald Trump, as reported by Reuters.
Obrador reiterated the need for oil independence.
His comments come after a major bilateral dispute over trade with the US Trump on Friday threatened to impose tariffs on all the Mexican goods over illegal immigration.
