Coronavirus update: Germany’s new infections top 11K for second straight day

Germany reported 11,242 new coronavirus cases on Friday, surging past the 11K mark for the second straight day, the latest statistics released by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) showed.

The total tally stands now stands at 403,291. On Thursday, the count rose by 11,287 – the biggest daily rise on record.

The deaths jumped by 49, bringing up the total count to 9,954. The rise in daily death is at the highest levels since May.

The active cases in the country have shot up to approximately 76,000 from just below ~69,000 the previous day.

Despite the rapid rise in the cases, Germany and Singapore released a joint statement on Friday, announcing reciprocal travel between the residents of both the countries for business or official reasons, upon following the safety precautions.

Market reaction

EUR/USD is on the offers so far this Friday, as the US dollar holds the higher ground amid cautious optimism and upbeat domestic data.

At the press time, the spot loses 0.15% to trade at 1.1797.
