China Press: China won’t just play defence in trade war – Reuters

The Global Times, a tabloid by the ruling Communist Party’s People’s Daily,  warned in an editorial on Monday that China will not be content to only play defense in an escalating trade war with the US, as the US President Trump prepares to announce new tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods later today.

On Sunday, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) cited the Chinese officials declining to participate in proposed trade talks with the US later this month if the US-China trade tensions escalate.

The Global Times editorial read:

“It is nothing new for the U.S. to try to escalate tensions so as to exploit more gains at the negotiating table.”

“We are looking forward to a more beautiful counter-attack and will keep increasing the pain felt by the U.S.”
