EU agrees to start trade talks with Australia, New Zealand – Reuters

The European Commission, which negotiates on behalf of the 28 EU members,  cleared the way on Tuesday for the bloc to begin free trade talks with Australia and New Zealand in an effort to counter the intensifying trade tensions with the US, Reuters reports.

The EU is likely to reach comprehensive agreements with both countries, although with caveats about opening up EU markets to farm produce such as butter and beef.
