A spokesperson for the European Commission refrained from speculating on a “last chance date” for Brexit talks and reiterated that they are committed to substantial negotiations, BBC Europe Editor Katya Adler reported on Monday.
Regarding the headlines claiming that the European Union’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, said that he doesn’t want talks to go beyond Wednesday, the spokesman said he was not in the room during that statement.
“The EU really doesn’t want Brexit to overshadow the EU summit Thursday and Friday this week.,” the spokesman further noted. “It has big budget, rule of law and COVID recovery fund problems to sort.”
