As reported by Reuters, UK Prime Minister Theresa May met businesses leaders on Wednesday, looking to soothe worries surrounding the impending divorce of the UK from the European Union.

“With five months to secure a deal before Britain is due to leave the EU, business leaders are demanding certainty over the kind of trade terms the divorce will deliver. In particular, they want reassurances that there will be a 21-month transition period after Britain is due to leave the bloc.

Attendees at the meeting at Guildhall in London said the atmosphere was good.  “There was a sense that they’ve got their mojo back,” Legal & General chief executive Nigel Wilson told BBC News after the meeting.  “There was assured confidence from both of them that Brexit negotiations will go well, so we’ll get a good solution, that it will go through parliament in a reasonably smooth way.”

If Britain and the EU fail to strike a withdrawal agreement, there will be no formal transition period to cushion the impact of Brexit.
