US jobless claims at 276K again

US jobless claims are off the lows, with another disappointing figure which is the exact number like last week: 276K. We have seen the numbers standing on below 260K at times. Continuing claims also fell short of expectations with 2.174 million. The 4 week moving average is on the rise to around 267K.

The dollar remains stable for now. Update: after an initial muted reaction, the greenback is now on the rise.

The US jobless claims were expected to slide back down to 270K from 276K seen last week. Continuing claims were predicted to stand at 2.16 million.

The US dollar was looking quite good towards the release. We have more important figures today, and more importantly a lot of Fed speakers, including Janet Yellen.

The euro was temporarily hit by Draghi and the Aussie enjoyed a good jobs report.

JOLTs job openings are published at 15:00 and the Fed watches this. Beforehand, Janet Yellen speaks at 14:30. Also Evans, Dudley, Fischer, Bullard and others talk. See the forex calendar
