Almost all the IOTA tokens that were stolen in an $11 million hack have been recovered. The alleged hacker is a 36-year old man from Oxford UK who is currently in jail for fraud, theft and money laundering. A coordinated effort by the Europol, which involved British and German law enforcement agencies, led to the man’s arrest.

“From what we know, just a small amount of the 10 million euros has not been found. “The exchanges have blocked the hacker’s accounts. He tried to free the money, but he did not succeed.”
The investigation started in early 2018 when the police received complaints from IOTA users about money being stolen from their wallets. The investigations showed that the fraud originated from the website Iotaseed.io. The site created an 81-digit security seed for iota wallets. The hacker was able to steal the seeds stored on the website to gain access to the users’ IOTA wallets and funds.
