A new Trojan horse malware targeting Android phones has been discovered. The malware is used to steal both fiat and digital assets belong to customers of international banks as well as crypto exchanges.
The malware referred to as Gustuff was discovered by a cybersecurity company called Group-IB. According to TnW the malware has a fully automated functionality for the purpose of “mass infections and maximum profit for its operators.”
According to the report the has been analyzed before. Gustuff is characterized with “web fakes” that clone applications to get sensitive data, for example, usernames and passwords. Customers who do not suspect the Trojan end up signing in Gustuff’s versions of the applications. At the moment, 32 cryptocurrency apps have been targeted including Coinbase, BitPay as well as Bitcoin Wallet.
For international banks, J.P Morgan, Wells Fargo as well as Bank of America have been targeted among others. Twenty-seven Apps in the United has are specifically targeted, Poland 16 while 16 Apps are targeted in Australia, nine are in Germany and eight are based in India.
